Blog

February 13, 2025: I’ve had this idea for years: to provide perspective on current events, offer thoughts on items related to Black culture, and share insights from a Black historical perspective, all with humor and authenticity, for the world to consume.

And that’s typically how things go—until something affects you personally, you put things off or think that you have more time than you really do. Regardless, Im excited to produce content and share my thoughts. No AI (at least not in the writing), everything is off the dome.

I always wondered what would be the catalyst to make me start writing again. Would it be the death of Sandra Bland, Philando Castile, or George Floyd? Would it be something more personal, like graduating from grad school or turning a certain age? Turns out it was something personal…losing my job. (Well, I was a political appointee, so it was bound to happen sooner or later, but with the election of this current administration, it just felt…heavier)

January 5, 2026: Actually, now looking back, (as I’m adding to what I wrote previously, even losing the job wasn’t the start; it just lit a fire under my ass. I waited and toiled to figure out my next move and begin working, which just pushed things back more.) After D’Angelo’s death (man that fucked me up as we lost such greatness and such authenticity), I realized there will never be a perfect time to start, nor a perfect start. You just have to go. And tomorrow is not promised. Put one foot in front of the other, or in this case, one key stroke after another, and just put things out there to be consumed.

What is the goal of LFTP (Letters For the People)? I’m not sure. To inform? To Entertrain? To persuade niggas to pick up a book? Idk. But I know I have things to share and an interesting perspective to share it from. I think love letters are the most intimate things you can write or send a person, so that’s what I’m doing—sending letters out to the internet, and seeing what comes back. Also, I originally wrote this the day before Valentine’s Day, thus the love letter concept. I guess I thought: “What better way to talk about topics within our culture than with love letters for our community?”

LFTP is also like “Lift Up”, but without the vowels. And maybe that’s the intent of the platform. To lift our people up… to the clouds, to the moon, to freedom; whatever that is. So without further ado, cheers to the beginning, cheers to freeing your mind, and y’all getting a glimpse into mine.
